The new direction of the Social and Cultural Adaptation Program at the Institute for the Training of Foreign Citizens is the volunteer work of students at the Ukrainian Children's Aid Center under the auspices of the "The Way Home"
"CHARITY COMES WITH DISCOVERED PANTS, ITS APPOINTMENT - TO GIVE IT."
These words belong to the American writer Pearl Buck.
In 2017, it was exactly 15 years since the Institute for the Training of Foreign Citizens developed and implemented the Socio-Cultural Adaptation Program for Foreign Students of ONPU. This program was originally aimed at helping newcomers to study foreign citizens when adapting in a new social and educational environment. Over the years, the program has been filled with numerous activities that not only beautified the years of study at ONPU, but left a significant mark in the life of many, popularizing the principles of humanism, philanthropy and benevolence.
And it is very symbolic that this year, on the initiative of foreign students of IPIG, the program received a new direction - cooperation with the Charity Fund "The Way Home". The Foundation is a non-governmental organization that trains Ukrainian children and adolescents from crisis and low-income families, as well as children from families of internally displaced persons from the war zone.
A graduate of the preparatory faculty of the IPIG of the 2016-2017 academic year, Egemen Turan, who himself only a few months ago learned about the existence of the Charity Fund, today he is his volunteer and comes to tell the students of the preparatory faculty about the activities of this organization and about caring for Ukrainian children.
For almost a month, students from different training groups have been systematically visiting a center created under the auspices of the Foundation, where they are engaged with children. Students of the last academic from Nigeria Amadi Shchedrak Onebuchi and Chukvuma Emmanuel, from Ghana Emmanuel Apia teach English. A student from Nigeria Chukva John coaches a children's football team. Turkish students of the new academic year Firat and Ibrahim made a video presentation about Turkey, they teach the Turkish language, Serzhan deals with children with wrestling. Chinese students are taught to draw hieroglyphics and explain their meaning. Thus, foreign students fill children's leisure with various interesting activities, and they themselves have an excellent opportunity to practice in Russian in an informal atmosphere.
And, of course, our students do not come empty-handed. "Our program is a sweet table!" - say the students, so they bring the children sweets. Children already know their new friends well and are happy to meet them.
On the last Saturday of November, the entire 11-I training group, along with curator Elena Ivanova, visited the children. There was a lot of joy on both sides. "We are waiting for you, come to us!" - such words are heard by our students when they say goodbye to the children of the Charitable Foundation "The Way Home". We hope that our students will not lose the desire to do good. Because, as the well-known writer Leo Tolstoy used to say: "TO BELIEVE IN GOOD, YOU HAVE FIRST TO DO IT!"
